National Art Honor Society: An Overview of the Club

People have varying degrees of experience with art—whether it be drawing, painting, making pottery and sculptures, or even digital drawing. The National Art Honor Society, one of the various national honor societies at Amity Regional High School, is in charge of bringing art to the students, staff, and the building as a whole. They come up with and host different art-based events at the school in an effort to give people the chance to mingle while doing art.

 

“Art has the power to connect people, and through the National Art Honor Society, we get to showcase how creativity can help bring a community together,” said Sophie Maung ‘27.

 

Using art, the NAHS is able to bring Amity together and make new connections between people. On November 14th, they held their induction ceremony and now have 25 members. They typically hold their meetings in room 284 (an art room), gathering every once in a while, although without a strict schedule.

 

“We hang out, trade techniques, and brainstorm what we can do to bring art to the Amity community—to just get people involved in art,” said Charlotte Palcic ‘28. “We had a trip to the Yale Art Museum that was really cool, and we’re considering different projects around the school.”

 

So far, they have hosted the ‘Totes and Treats’ event, hosted the bake sale at the Winter Orchestra Concert, and gone on the Yale field trip, where they got a chance to explore the museum with each other, taking in the different art pieces there.

 

“Putting together our plans is one thing, but actually putting them into action has been really fun,” said Claire Hubbard ‘27. “Like our Totes and Treats event, for example!”

 

The Totes and Treats event was held on December 12th in the cafeteria, where students had a chance to paint tote bags while chatting with friends.

 

“I liked this event a lot because I had a lot of fun with my friends, and got to help others have a fun time!” said Sophie Maung ‘27.

 

The members of the honor society look forward to continuing to include people in art and promote it in a way that can hopefully make more want to join in. “

 

Something that I’m looking forward to as a member of the National Honor Art Society is the chance to create, participate in, and share different types of art in ways that are relaxing, fun, and that hopefully exercise mindfulness and inclusivity at the fact that there are many types of art and not everyone is interested or skilled in the same areas!” said Beth Palcic ‘28.

 

The National Art Honor Society is a great way for students at Amity to experience art, whether they’ve been doing art for years or they’re a complete beginner!
