ARHS Student Government

The Student Government is dedicated to fostering a vibrant school community by supporting various clubs and events while also contributing to our local community. We take pride in organizing clothing and canned food drives, promoting enjoyable school dances, selling school apparel, and enhancing overall school spirit.

Academic Year Meeting Schedule

All meetings are generally held on the first Monday of every school month at 7:00pm unless noted otherwise. The Executive Board will meet in an executive session at 6:30. All meetings are open to the student body. At the end of every student government run meeting, there will be an opportunity for members of the administration, faculty, or students to speak.

Each person will be given two minutes to speak depending on how many members of the public are present to speak. This part of the meeting usually occurs at the end and it is called “open forum” or “public comment.”

Reminder: All monthly meetings are mandatory! Please come a few minutes early for attendance. If you cannot attend a meeting then you must e-mail peter.downhour@amityschools.org and let Mr. Downhour know.

The Amity High Student Government meets once a month during every school year in the lecture hall. Prior to each meeting, the agenda will be posted under this section for public viewing.

Constitution

We, the Representatives of the students of Amity Regional High School, do hereby convene this Council in the interest of our fellow students.

To promote cooperation among students, staff, administration and the Board of Education.
To support student organizations.
To provide a democratic forum for all.
To represent and act upon the social interests of students.
To provide the entire school community with the opportunity to actively participate in school related events.

Absence Policy

If any member has two unexcused absences from either their class council or government, they will receive a warning from the board of the respective council. If they have another unexcused absence after the warning, the member will be removed from both their class council and Student Government.

Principal's Committee

The Principal’s Committee is comprised of members of the Amity High School Student Government as well as members of the administration. The committee meets once every month. The committee is charged with finding ways of directly improving the school and it’s environment. The minutes to each meeting will be posted in the minutes of the main student government meeting of that specific month.
