Attendance Policy & Schedules
A-F DAYS
Our schedule is a 6-day rotating schedule. The five academic classes (English, Math, Science, Social Studies, and World Language) and Life Arts classes meet every day. The full-year electives (Band, Choir, Mandarin Chinese, and Strings) meet on alternating days opposite Physical Education. Eighth-grade half-year electives are offered opposite Academic Success. Special Services are incorporated on a rotating basis.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
If your child will be absent for any reason, please be sure to contact the attendance line to report the absence. Each absence must be followed up by a note from a parent or guardian. We are now accepting e-mails for follow-up notes as well.
Please send email notes to: Kristin.mcnamara@amityregion5.org. That note or e-mail will suffice to excuse absences 1-9 and subsequent absences will require documentation from a doctor or medical provider to be excused.
As we continue our district focus on improving attendance we are implementing some new procedures that will help make it easier to communicate absences to the school in a timely manner. Beginning on September 9, 2024, any student that is marked absent, or unexcused from one, or more periods throughout the day, will receive an automated call from the SchoolMessenger around 3 PM.

EARLY DISMISSAL
Early dismissal from school requires a written request from a parent or guardian. The note must be brought to the main office at the beginning of the school day. Dismissal is generally for doctor’s appointments and family emergencies. Parents or guardians must come into the office and sign out their child before the student may leave the building.
TARDY POLICY
Bus Routes & Transportation
Transportation by school bus is provided for all students. Students are not allowed to walk/bicycle to or from school without written permission from a parent/guardian. This note must be presented to the office prior to walking/bicycling to or from school. Loitering along the roads or areas bordering the school grounds is not permitted because it may be a safety risk and may interfere with automobile and bus traffic.

Program of Studies & Course Offerings
The Amity Regional School District provides a variety of experiences for students that support their social and academic needs in middle school. All seventh and eighth graders are placed on an academic team for the core subjects of Math, Science, Social Studies, English, and Spanish. The team structure provides a smaller learning community and a supportive learning environment, which promotes a sense of belonging and connection for students. We have a flexible schedule and opportunities for inter-disciplinary experiences. The curriculum is challenging, integrative, and exploratory.

Student Teams & Support
Teachers across Teams Blue, Black, Gold, and Green instruct in five subjects: Math, Science, English, Social Studies, and Spanish. Teams Black and Gold teach 8th grade, while Teams Blue and Green teach 7th grade. Each quarter, one of the Life Arts teachers will join the teams to instruct our students.
Though students are all on the same team, each class is a unique mix, allowing students to work with diverse peers throughout the school day. Because team teachers share the same cohort of students, we meet regularly to discuss the needs of individuals, communicate with families, create cross-curricular opportunities, and continue to foster a positive learning environment. This collaborative approach helps ensure that all students have the best experience possible and are prepared to move on to high school!
