Solarization of a print
Solarization of a print is done in the darkroom. After you expose your
light sensitive paper and place your paper with the latent image into
the developer, watch as the image develops before your eyes. When it
appears to have completed the developing process, it no longer appears
to be getting darker, gently scoop you wet print out of the developer
tray. Bring to an enlarger that has been set up with no negative and
the light open 2-3. Hold the wet print in a new tray under the light
of a second enlarger and watch it carefully. You will notice that the
brightest whites will begin to turn gray and when that happens quickly
take your print face down into the Stop Bath tray. Then complete
the developing process taking your print from the Stop Bath and then
into the Fixer then rinse in water. When you bring your solarized
print out into the white light you will notice that there is a surreal
chrome like appearance to the white areas of your print. There is little
control of this process and you are a slave to the chemical prism that
occurs as the light reflects through the developer on your unstopped
print.
