Cropping a Print

Cropping a print can be done in a variety of ways

1. You can physically cut the enlargement to eliminate that part you wish to remove

2. You can Zoom in when taking the original picture

3. You can lift the enlarger head with the negative to supersize it yet only capture the image in your 5 x 7 easel

For the 2nd Assignment "Cropping" Select a second negative from the proof sheet. Print the enlargement after creating a VTTS & SSTS . Then raise enlarger head up so the image no longer fits into the 5 x 7 easel opening, Turn the easel horizontal from vertical or vertical to horizontal for the 2nd print. 2nd print requires a new VTTS and a new STTS since you have raised the enlarger head to be further away from your light sentisive paper and the light will take longer to get there.(Option: Open light 2x or more for zoomed in version of 2nd assignment)

4. Try to change the direction of the print as well so if the full negative is horizontal, make the zoomed in cropped version vertical

The image to the right of a boat in the night off the Maryland shore demonstrates how you can eliminate some of the background to bring the subject or focal point closer for a better view
