The educational philosophy that supports homogeneous grouping is that each student learns best in an environment that is most suitable for him or her. A major responsibility of Amity educators is to make wellconsidered level recommendations for each student according to the criteria below. All level recommendations are based on ability, performance, and appropriate test scores. If a situation occurs where a parent does not concur with the teacher, then a conference is held among parents, student, counselor, recommending teacher and/or department chairperson. When the placement disagreement cannot be resolved, parents will be required to sign a waiver releasing school personnel of responsibility.

Amity Regional Senior High School Policy on Summer School Work and Course Failures
Students who will or may fail a course at Amity Senior High School will receive a copy of the Make Up Form For Restoration of Credit (attached). It is the responsibility of the student to complete this form and to return it to the teacher.
Students who have received a teacher's permission to make up work in a course and who successfully complete a summer school program of 30 hours or more or who receive 30 hours or more of private tutoring may re-take Amity's examination(s) for the course. If the examination(s) are passed, the student will receive credit for the class and a grade of D- will replace the F.
Students who successfully complete an Amity Summer School "for credit" course will be moved on to the next course. The course and grade will be recorded on the student's transcript. The grade will not be averaged into the student's Grade Point Average.
Students who successfully complete a summer school course of approximately 120 hours will be permitted to take an Amity examination in the subject. If that examination is passed, the student will be permitted to move on to the next course in the sequence, if applicable. A notation will be made on the student's transcript of the course, site and grade once official confirmation is received.
Amity Senior High School Policy on Level Waivers
Amity
recognizes a student and parent's right to waive a student into a level of a class that is not what was recommended by the previous teacher. Amity will not create new sections of classes to accommodate these waivers. Waivers
must be submitted before March 15th. Students wishing to waive into these classes will have their names placed on a waiting list and will be placed in the class if there is room for them.
Copies of the forms for level waivers are available from the guidance counselors.
